A man was stabbed yesterday in broad daylight at Red Rock Canyon Open Space in Colorado Springs. The person stabbing him was a robber that was attempting to steal his wallet. The assault happened at around 3 PM in the afternoon and resulted in the man being treated for non-life threatening injuries at a local hospital.

This is the latest in a number of crimes that have occurred at outdoor recreation spaces in Colorado Springs over the past year, including when two were robbed at gunpoint on Gold Camp Road in November and when a shootout shutdown nearby Devil’s Head campsites in July.

Red Rock Open Space is a popular spot for hiking and biking in the Pikes Peak region, offering a nearby escape from downtown. Once home to a landfill, the park spans 1,474 acres with popular attractions including an old quarry and a number of hogbacks.

If you’ve got any information about this stabbing, you’re encouraged to call the local police at 719-444-7000.
