Given that Colorado is home to some of the most beautiful and diverse destinations in the world, it’s no surprise that Paradise Cove has become a popular attraction for travelers. This once kept-local secret is now grabbing a lot of attention from thrill seekers, but don’t let the talk of crowds deter you from exploring this hidden gem. Paradise Cove is well worth a visit for its adrenaline rush, breathtaking scenery, and natural waters.

How to Visit

Guffey Gorge Trail is a 1-mile hike out and back with a slight elevation gain near Cripple Creek, Colorado. While Guffey Gorge is open 365 days a year from dawn to dusk, the trail is best used from May until September. This short trail is good for all skill levels, though best suited for intermediate-level hikers due to its rugged nature. Dogs are also able to use this scenic hiking trail, but must be kept on-leash at all times.

At the trailhead, you’ll find a small parking lot, bathrooms, and a detailed trail map. Day passes are just $6 per vehicle. Because parking is very limited, visitors are strongly encouraged to carpool and arrive early to secure a spot.  It’s also worth mentioning that the trail gets really crowded in the summer, so plan to start your hike before 9:00 am.

Guffey Gorge Adopts new rules Spencer McKee

There are many risks involved with cliff jumping, including serious injury and even death. For safety reasons, never head out to go jumping alone and avoid consuming alcohol (it’s also against the rules at this location). It’s also important to double check the water’s depth and landing-areas before deciding to jump from the cove’s cliffs. Depth can vary depending on recent precipitation, time of year, and temperature. A few inches can make a big differences when you’re trying not to break your legs on the floor of the pool.

If you’re planning on visiting Paradise Cove, you’re most likely coming from either Colorado Springs. This hidden gem is also quite visitable from Denver, though the drive is twice as long at roughly two hours.
