Over the weekend, the body of a Kansas man that went missing was found in Steamboat Lake. The man went missing on Friday, having since been identified by the Routt County Coroner as 64-year-old David Bass. David Bass was from Hutchinson, Kansas.

Bass was tending to a parked fishing boat at Steamboat Lake State Park when the boat went adrift. Bass went into the water after the boat and went under, never resurfacing.

The man with Bass went into the water after Bass went under but was unable to find him.

Condolences go out to Bass’ friends and family.

Steamboat Lake State Park is located in Routt County, roughly 30 miles north of Steamboat Springs. The reservoir in this State Park is quite large, spanning 1,100 acres. It’s a popular spot for outdoor recreation, including fishing, hiking, and boating, attracting more than 350,000 visitors a year.
