When Tornados Touch Down in Colorado

The eastern Colorado plains get more than their fair share of tornados annually. In fact, June is tornado high season: over 700 have popped up in Colorado during this 30-day period since 1950. May and July tend to fight it out between second and third, each spawning around 400 of these destructive windstorms across the Centennial State. To some in Colorado, tornados are always a threat.

The three counties that are the most at risk are Weld, Adams, and Washington. Weld tops the list as it nears 300 twisters since 1950.
