An enormous pile of tires has recently been discovered close to Cottonwood Lake in Buena Vista alongside Forest Service Roads 343/344. The tires are estimated to weigh more than 2,000 pounds, dumped in Pike and San Isabel National Forests.

As you might expect, dumping of this nature is illegal as it can be very harmful to the environment and expensive to clean up. Some source estimate that it takes between 50-80 years for tires to decompose.

According to a post on the US Forest Service – PSICC National Forest Facebook page, Salida Ranger District is looking for any information regarding this incident. If you know anything about who might have dumped the tires, the Salida Ranger District can be contacted at 719-539-3591.
