Located on the western end of Horsetooth Road, Spring Canyon Dog Park is worth taking the pup to whether you’re a Fort Collins local or just passing through. It’s composed of three areas – a large gravel play space, an enclosure that features a dog-friendly pond, and a smaller area dedicated to small or skittish dogs. In total, the space spans between two and three acres.
Let’s talk a little bit about the pond at this dog park, as this is what makes this spot particularly unique.
Encompassing roughly 1/3 of the space, you’ll find that the pond enclosure is a slightly more natural area. Included in this space is a small pond that’s deep enough for dogs to swim, making this perfect for a tiring game of fetch. The shore is mixed between beach space and rocky terrain, with several trees surrounding the space. There’s even a shaded bench, which would be great for a hot day.
After visiting Spring Canyon Dog Park, I was quite glad we made the stop. I found that the smaller nature of this pond, compared to larger reservoirs around the state, made for the perfect spot to introduce my pup to open water. Within no time, she was swimming with her new puppy friends.
As is the case with any dog park, animals can be unpredictable. Use this space at your own risk.
