We love our rugged outdoors in Colorado but sometimes, we just want to book an incredible, glamorous camping trip to relax, recharge and retain bragging rights for years to come.

These luxury adventures and learning opportunities for Colorado’s most popular recreational sports are simply not to be missed. If you’re getting married or planning an upscale family reunion or office retreat, you’ll not do better than The Broadmoor’s adventures.

Presented by:

Don’t worry, if you can’t pick just one, the resort offers a seven-night package that includes two nights at Cloud Camp, two nights at The Ranch at Emerald Valley and two at their world-famous Orvis-endorsed, Fly Fishing Camp that also offers women’s-only immersive fly fishing retreats.

1. They don’t do the predictable thing

If you’ve gotten over some of the obvious choices for camping out in our beautiful wilderness and want to up your game, consider Cloud Camp at The Broadmoor. With turn-down service in a rustic lodge built on the same foundation as Cheyenne Lodge and just minutes from downtown Colorado Springs, get ready to bring your wilderness game to the next level. Meet your fellow campers at each evening’s communal meal in a stories-high-ceiling dining room where uniformed waiters serve canapes, truffle fries and lobster. Enjoy lunch either in the dining room or on the wraparound patio overlooking The Broadmoor and the plains far below. The patio is also an ideal place to sip creative libations or huddle by a campfire while roasting s’mores and soaking in the beautiful scenery. After working up an appetite, enjoy the haute dinner cuisine around the elegant long table of Cloud Camp, which serves as a reflection of the life and times of Mr. and Mrs. Penrose during the Golden Age of the 1920s. Mr. Penrose’s penchant for fellowship and celebrating with guests is exemplified by the hand-hewn communal table where the tales of the day are shared over dinner with fellow guests. Before dinner, Cloud Camp’s evening Cooking Club gives some hands on time learning new skills from the chef while expanding your culinary repertoire. Our humble efforts are to preserve the past traditions and the camaraderie fostered by shared experience.

Cooking classes, hot tub soaks and sunrise yoga await your getaway in a private, 1-bedroom cabin in the woods that won’t have you sitting in I-70 traffic to get there. You can even ride into Camp on a mule or in a Cadillac Escalade from The Broadmoor further down the mountain.  And if you want to prepare to burn off the k-cals from the resort’s delectable meals, you can hike in along a three-hour trail starting in the impressive shadow of Pikes Peak, America’s Mountain.

If you want to host an unforgettable bachelor or bachelorette party or family reunion, there are seven stunning rooms in the main lodge and 11, one- and two-bedroom guest cabins. All-inclusive packages start at $875 a night. 844-602-3343.

2. They want to experience the “True West”

Ranch manager Craig Hilton presides over The Ranch at Emerald Valley starting in May, where you can find him hiking or riding along with guests at the premier “summer camp for adults” that also has a concierge to handle your every request, rather than the classic, surly teen counselor.

Guests gather at the stone fireplace in the evening or sing around a campfire eating s’mores and hearing stories of the Old West. They can also relax in private at one of the seven one-bedroom, two two-bedroom and one three-bedroom cabins for family or couples’ time. The cabins décor is inspired by renowned Western Art, with paintings throughout, gorgeous stonework and Old West patterned accoutrements that will soothe your busy, modern-life spirit.  An invigorating ride on horseback delivers gleaming vistas Coloradans never take for granted.

There are opportunities for sports like mountain biking, canoeing and kayaking and, true to summer camp tradition, you can even learn archery, play cornhole and fish.

Travel writer Claudia Carbone from Colorado Expression promises: “Hearty mountain breakfasts, buffet lunches with soups, sides and entrees, and sumptuous dinners paired with fine wines (that) “rival the best of The Broadmoor’s restaurants.” That’s the best the west has to offer.

3. They know where to find the best of everything

Along five miles of private fly-fishing paradise beside the idyllic Tarryall River, create an opportunity to unplug and learn the Colorado-proud sport from local experts. There are some private cabins nestled against the Lost Creek Wilderness as well as an Orvis-endorsed Fly-Fishing Main Lodge offering artisan meals and as much community-time as you would like.

Voted the “Best Angler’s Weekend” by Sunset Magazine, 2018, you can also go hiking, learn to tie flies or perfect your chipping game on the par-3 golf hole. Bring your appetite (did I mention the food is incredible?) and eagerness for adventure among wild-flowered meadows and shady forests.

Bachelorettes should look into “These Boots are Made for Wading” women’s retreat. These two weekends in June and July fill up quickly because this interactive immersion in the sport of fly fishing also includes ecology lessons about the river; fly tying classes; and one-of-a-kind chances for female bonding with your besties. Rates for the women’s retreat are as follows:  $1,800++ based on single occupancy for a 2-night stay at The Broadmoor Fly Fishing Camp (plus applicable service charges & taxes) or $2,000+ based on double occupancy for a 2-night stay at The Broadmoor Fly Fishing Camp (plus applicable service charges & taxes).

The camp is located 75 miles from The Broadmoor proper but you can book car service from the hotel or from local or Denver airports. Nightly, all-inclusive stays start at $875 in one of seven authentic miners’ cabins. If you want to stay at The Broadmoor itself, you can book a night in its storied rooms—but make sure to make time for cocktails on the terrace before you turn in. I would go for the Mangorita or Ginger Collins, both bright, refreshing choices after a day exploring the impressive grounds and streams. Call 855-634-7711.
