Colorado may be a land-locked state, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t opportunities to get tropical. The Colorado sun brings the heat to island-inspired beach bashes, bars, and entertainments happening around the state.

1. Tito’s Blue Mesa Beach Bash

This beach bash takes place at Blue Mesa Reservoir, the largest lake in Colorado. The event is a blast for paddle-boarders with stand-up-paddle-boarding demonstrations, lessons, yoga, tug-of-war, jousting, and races. On the beach there’s BBQ, drinks, and live music. The event happens on August 25th.

2. Adrift Tiki Bar

Find the tropics in the heart of Denver at Adrift Tiki Bar. They have a selection of handcrafted cocktails and menu items inspired by island living including hand-squeezed juices, guava BBQ ribs, and a Jaws burger. The socially conscious bar embraces an Ohana (family) mentality and sets aside a percentage of every sale towards the Mana Immersion Fund, which provides financial assistance to humanitarian efforts.

3. Sand in the City

Arvada hosts this two-day event in late June. The festival offers entertainment for all ages at a tropical party in the heart of the city. There are giant sand sculptures, beer from local craft breweries, live music, and local vendors selling a variety of wares, foods, and drinks. And don’t miss the luaus held Saturday and Sunday.

4. Barcycle Denver

Anyone who has spent time in Denver in the summer has surely seen the bike bars that have recently rose to popularity. If you haven’t experienced a ride on one of these hilarious bar tours, you need to. The Barcycle takes up to sixteen people on a two-hour pub-crawl through Denver on a pedal-powered, tropical-grass-covered vehicle. Don’t worry, all of the vehicles come with a Barcycle driver and have space for a cooler full of drinks you bring along.

5. Uncle Buck’s Fishbowl & Grill

This tropical restaurant and bowling alley in Colorado Springs is part of the Bass Pro Shops family. With an island-themed bar that replicates a sunken shipwreck and bowling alleys that seem submerged in the deep ocean, Uncle Buck’s is an all-ages party. The bowling balls resemble sea creatures and murals on the walls and fish hanging from the ceiling complete the underwater experience.
