1. Colorado Medieval Festival

Hear ye, hear ye! Calling all maidens and knights out to Loveland for 3 full days of swordsmanship, local musicians, beer and mead makers, crafts, and over 60 vendors. For those looking to bite into a large turkey leg or craving lots of entertainment, you won’t be disappointed; there will be plenty of food, performances, and Highland Game Competitions, featuring events like the heavy and light hammer throws.

2. Mike the Headless Chicken Festival

Yep! You read that right. Dedicated to a chicken who miraculously survived 18 months without his head, the 19th Annual Mike the Headless Chicken Festival in Fruita will be a weekend whirlwind of fun activities including a disc golf tournament, car show, 5K run, live music, food eating contests, games, amazing artists, and several food vendors.

3. Denver Chalk Art Festival

In just two days, over 200 artists will transform the streets of Larimer Square into a colorful masterpiece of chalk artwork. You’ll have to see the chalk paintings firsthand to believe how these artists can bring such complicated, stunning images to life through a series of unique techniques. As you walk the streets enjoy live music from local bands and stop by the Kids’ Corner to watch aspiring young artists design their own colorful creations.

4. “Into the Wild” Running Festival

Run alongside various habitats sheltering over 450 lions, tigers, bears, wolves and other rescued animals and support a good cause while doing it. The “Into the Wild” Running Festival takes place in Keenesburg at the world’s largest and oldest nonprofit animal sanctuary, The Wild Animal Sanctuary. The race features a family 5K run/walk, 5K or 10K run, entrance for the day into the sanctuary, food, beverages, live music and some awesome race swag. All proceeds go to support The Wild Animal Sanctuary and their continued efforts to rescue and care for endangered carnivores.

5. 34th Annual Telluride Balloon Festival

Even though this is one of Telluride’s smallest festivals, it is arguably the most beautiful. Arrive at Town Park at 6:15 a.m. on Saturday June 3rd for the early morning lift-off. But don’t worry if you oversleep! The pilots inflate their balloons on Main Street on Saturday night for the “Glow” and then lift off again on Sunday morning. Bring your camera—these might be some of the best photos you get all year!
