Aspen is not only a ski destination but a hiker’s paradise as well. The Aspen area hosts a variety of awesome day hikes ranging from easy to strenuous. Here are 5 of our favorite day hikes near Aspen, Colorado that we would recommend to anyone visiting this beautiful corner of the Centennial State.

1. Smuggler Mountain Trail

A moderate three-mile round trip hike to scenic views of Aspen and Aspen Mountain – the perfect day hike.

2. Ute Trail

Gain 1,700 feet in elevation up a steep incline that can be accessed from downtown Aspen. The loop is 2.4 miles, and the trail is rated difficult, but the views make the climb worth it in the end.

3. Sunnyside Trail

This day hike offers views of the Roaring Fork Valley. The trail is 4.8 miles round trip and another great day hike option.

4. The Rim Trail

Located in Snowmass Village, this seven-mile hike offers great views of the area as well. It is also a good option for mountain bikers.

5. Capitol Creek Loop

A hike with 1,500 feet of elevation gain that will bring you to a beautiful alpine lake in the Aspen area.
