A 100-acre fire is burning north of Durango on U.S. 550, La Plata County tweeted.

The 416 fire is growing and has closed U.S. 550 between mile markers 34 and 48 in both directions.

Eight structures are threatened. Mandatory evacuations have been issued from Rockwood, south to Baker’s Ridge, west of the Animas River on the east side of U.S. 550. Pre-evacuations have been issued for the east side of 550 North of CR 250 to Electra Lake.

An 8,000-acre fire is also burning in northern New Mexico off of U.S. 64 near the town of Ute Park, New Mexico Fire Information reported.

The fire is 0 percent contained, has destroyed 12 unoccupied, non-residential structures and is threatening another 150 structures. Smoke from the Ute Park fire can be seen in Trinidad and other areas of southern Colorado.

The fire cause is under investigation.
