Pikes Peak Region Trail Finder

Echo Mountain Ski and Snowboard Area is opening more terrain before the start of the season.

Owners say they'll add a beginner run and access to glade skiing at the ski area near Idaho  Springs, which largely serves terrain park riders.  Work is slated to begin this week, and the new trail should be complete within six to eight weeks.

Echo Mountain sits on 240 acres, but owner Jerry Petitt says only about 35 percent of it is developed for skiing and riding.

Echo officials say any trees cleared for the new trail will be reclaimed for erosion control, trail marking and for building features.
