CityRock to host Varsity, open climbing competitions

Rock climbers from across Colorado will pit their skills against one other and a climbing wall in downtown Colorado Springs on Friday and Saturday a the state varsity climbing finals and on Sunday at the ABS (American Bouldering Series) Citizen's National Championships.
Junior varsity climbers will be at the CityRock climbing gym, 21 N. Nevada Ave., from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. Varsity climbers will be there from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
This is the fourth annual competition for the state league. Climbers will represent schools in Colorado Springs, Monument, Castle Rock, Denver, Grand Junction, Ouray, Montrose, Fort Collins and Carbondale.
The teens have three hours to climb as many roped climbs and boulders as they can, with their top five scores added to get a final score. Team scores are composed of the top three individual scores.
There is no entry fee for spectators.
CityRock is hosting the ABS Citizen’s National Championships on Sunday at nearby City Auditorium. Entry is limited to 100 competitors per session. Climbers age 15 and younger will compete from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Older climbers will compete from 2 to 5 p.m. Spectator tickets cost $12.50 and can be purchased ahead of time at absnationals.org.
