First lady and kids skiing in Aspen

Celebrities are nothing new to the glitzy slopes of Aspen. But one of the biggest is spending the holiday weekend there.

ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — First lady Michelle Obama is spending Presidents Day weekend in Aspen with her daughters, Sasha and Malia.

Few details about the ski vacation have been released, but Pitkin County Sheriff Joe DiSalvo tells the Aspen Daily News (http://bit.ly/ydO3Hk ) he has met with the Secret Service and has loaned seven deputies to help protect the first lady and her family.

He says Obama arrived Friday afternoon, and "it's a privilege to have the first lady here."

The newspaper reports Obama and the girls spent time at Vail and Beaver Creek last Presidents Day.

The first lady was in Aspen last July when she spoke at the home of James Crown, managing partner of Aspen Skiing Co., in front of about 150 supporters. Most guests paid between $1,000 and $10,000 to attend.
