Love is in the air on the ski slopes
Valentine's Day and skiing - it's like a match made in heaven.
My wife and I have been taking a Valentine's weekend ski trip every winter for years. Of course, with the holiday falling on a Tuesday this year, it's a little tougher, but there are still plenty of ways you and your significant other can combine your love of each other with your love of skiing or riding.
Here is some of what's going on for couples this weekend and on the holiday:
Loveland's 21st Annual Mountaintop Matrimony (picture above from Loveland Ski Area's Facebook page)
The ski hill with love in its name holds a mass wedding ceremony for couples every Valentine's Day at 12,050 feet. The happy couples then ski or snowboard down the hill for a reception with cake, music and prizes. Marrying couples get a 2-for-1 lift ticket coupon for the day.
Couples are encouraged to dress in "ski wedding" attire. Click here for details of the event.
Already married? Not ready to tie the knot? Trade group Colorado Ski Country USA is giving away a couples getaway to Devil's Thumb Ranch near Winter Park. Click here for details.
Many on-mountain restaurants are offering special deals for Valentine's Day. Check with your favorite resort. Unfortunately, it's tougher to find great lodging deals. This is peak season after all.
Single folks, we've got you covered, too.
Denver-area skil hill Echo Mountain will host a "Stupid Cupid" party Friday night. Starting at 4 p.m., bachelors and bachelorettes can get a $25 night-skiing lift ticket, and there will be a party with drink specials, games and prizes.
Utah's Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort came up with an interesting way to reach out to lonely singles. For Valentine's Day, the resort is creating a lift line just for singles not in relationships (not sure how the lifties will check that....), so they can meet someone, maybe even that special snow bunny. The resort is offering a singles' mixer to cement that new chairlift relationship.
Speaking of love, Mother Nature may be showing Colorado some love for the holiday. Forecasters say more snow is likely Saturday and Sunday and again early next week. After this dry winter in the high country, I know we're all in the mood for that kind of love...
