A Denver cycling event has backed off its requirement that riders disclose their household income levels on their registration forms.

KUSA-TV in Denver reports that in response to complaints, the household income question is now voluntary for people registering for the Coldwell Banker Denver Century Ride.

Denver-based event marketer Creative Strategies Group designed the questionnaires for registrants. Creative Strategies  President Bruce Erley said the question was designed to provide marketing information for sponsors, who include KUSA. Erley says fewer than 1 percent of registrants for the Father's Day ride complained.
