While Colorado's ski areas boast about "going green," recycling, using renewable energy and becoming more energy efficient, one tiny Swiss town took those efforts a step further with its one-and-only chair lift: it went solar-powered.

The T-bar in Tenna, Switzerland - the only ski lift in the surrounding valley - was saved from being shut down by become the world's first solar-powered ski lift.

The Tenna lift generates 90,000 kilowatt hours a year, and the extra power goes back into the grid, which makes money for the town, which paid for the conversion.

Read more about the cost of the lift and how it operates at Adventure Journal online.
