Colorado snowboarder bumming his way to World Cup competitions

Justin Reiter, of Steamboat Springs, recently placed 15th in a World Cup race.  John Russell, Steamboat Today

I just ran across a column by John Russell in Steamboat Today about a local snowboarder, Justin Reiter, who is competing in World Cup races - self-supported.

Meaning he's training, traveling and competing without support from the U.S. team.  You go, Justin.

“When I show up for races, it’s me, myself and I,” he told Russell.

Reiter said he bummed a ride to the start of a recent World Cup race in Bad Gastein, Austria.

“I thought I might have to thumb my way or simply hike to the venue,” he said. “Sometimes, you take the little things, like having a ride to the race, for granted when you are part of a team. That day, I was happy just to get to the race venue.”

Read Russell's interview with Justin Reiter.  You can't help but cheer the guy on!
