The Colorado Springs Cycling Club is celebrating its 25th year in 2012!

One way you can help celebrate is to join the club and its fun activities.

Another way is to join the club's 14th Annual Buena Vista Bike Fest on May 19. Registration is open at eventbrite.com.

The fest includes a century ride - and shorter cruises, too: 35 miles, 50 miles and a metric century (62 miles).

This ride will take you through gorgeous country! Buena Vista to Leadville along the scenic rolling hills of Turquoise Lake Road, around the Mineral Belt Trail passing aspen groves and conifer forests, meandering through the historic Leadville Mining District, and back to Buena Vista in the shadows of Colorado’s highest peaks.

Organizers remind: Nearly all of the climbing is completed during the first 60 miles; the last 40 miles are essentially downhill or flat.

The Buena Vista Bike Fest is sponsored by the Colorado Springs Cycling Club and Bristol Brewing Co., and is the club's major fundraiser.

"This is really a fun ride, and it's the earliest century in Colorado," said club member CeCe Beauchamp, of Colorado Springs. "And we have the best rest stops. We really do it up with themed stops and enthusiastic volunteers!"

Money raised at the festival goes toward the club's mission of getting bikes into the hands of people who want to ride, especially kids, and promoting bicycling and cycling safety.

This year's Buena Vista Bike Fest includes music by local bluegrass band Grass It Up, refreshments by Bristol Brewing Co., prizes by CS West Bikes & Ted's Bicycles, and vendor booths. The post-ride events are scheduled from noon to 6 p.m. at McPhelemy Park in Buena Vista.

Cyclists may start the ride any time after 7 a.m. Suggested start times are: 7 a.m. for the century; 7:30 a.m. for 62 miles; 8 a.m. for 50 miles and 8:30 a.m. for 35 miles.

Entry is $135 with a jersey or $65 without. Registration is scheduled to remain open until March 14, but Beauchamp says the 800-rider cap often is reached long before then. "I recommend people sign up early!" she said.

Volunteers may register to lend a hand through May 15 at the Buena Vista Bike Fest website.

Check out the website for details about the route, to see the jersey, to learn more about the festival, to see past photos, etc.
