It must be a powder day
Friday, January 27, 2012 09:08

(That's a webcam in Breck this morning)

My Twitter feed is going nuts this morning, so that can only mean one thing: It's a powder day in the mountains.

Forecasts called for 4 to 8 inches last night, and it looked like the storm delivered. Vail is reporting 11 inches, Copper Mountain 9, Breckenridge 8 and Loveland 8,  Winter Park, Monarch, Beaver Creek and A-Basin 6 and Keystone 5.

All this snow means the already dangerous avalanche conditions are even worse, and officials are warning against any backcountry travel in avalanche-prone areas today.

If you're like me and couldn't get out today, the snow is expected to continue to fall throughout the day, so Saturday morning should make for some nice turns.
