It's snowing in the mountains this morning and up to 12 inches of new accumulation is expected in some high areas of the northern and central mountains by sunset.

Highway sections of I-70 in the mountains are snow packed, slushy and icy, including both sides of the Eisenhower tunnel and Vail Pass. Loveland Pass is closed this morning because of adverse weather conditions, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Snow should continue at higher elevations throughout most of the day, and blowing and drifting snow could hamper travel in some areas, especially over passes. Drivers should be prepared for winter conditions. There should be less snow at lower elevations of mountain valleys.
