If you want to learn about helping the trails you hike and ride, slip your smartphone into your pocket before you head out.
The Trails and Open Space Coalition is adding QR (quick response) codes - square barcodes (see photo) - to trailhead signs.
The QR codes provide access to information after you scan the image with your phone's camera. (You have to have an app first, and many of them are free.)
Trails and Open Space will be adding them as a way to provide information about volunteer projects.
Cool idea! I used these during a recent hike in a national park., where they linked to in-depth information about the geography and botany of the area I hiked.
