Snow - it's what's for Monday!
Sunday, January 15, 2012 17:59

A winter weather advisory goes into efffect at midnight and is scheduled through 11 p.m. Monday along the Continental Divide.

The National Weather Service expects a Pacific storm that transformed Seattle into a winter wonderland will move into Colorado on Monday night and bring snow to the high country.

Meteorologists are calling for 4 to 8 inches with 30-50 mph wind and gusts up to 65 mph in the Eastern Sawatch Mountains, particularly above 11,000 feet and including Independence Pass, Mount Elbert and Mount Massive.

The advisory goes into effect at 6 p.m. and continues through 6 p.m. Monday for the La Garita and eastern San Juan mountains above 10,000 feet. That includes North, Cumbres and Wolf Creek passes.

Needless to say, take extra caution if you're in the high country, whether driving or outdoors.

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center warned of increased avalanche danger in coming days due to this storm. Read more here, especially if you're thinking of heading into the backcountry to ski, board, snowshoe or snowmobile.
