A storm hardly expected to bring in more than an inch of accumulation Saturday dumped nearly 6 inches of snow on Frisco by nightfall when the system began to move south.

Snow fell fast and hard all day Saturday and unofficial evening readings put Frisco's snow accumulation at 5.5 inches by 8 p.m. with the snow still lightly falling and weather forecasters calling for an additional 1-2 inches possible before morning.

None of the local resorts were reporting snowfall by press time Saturday night, but official readings at Copper at 5 p.m. put accumulation at about 3.5 inches as snow continued to fall.

The storm, one of the first productive systems to pass through Summit County this season, was expected to move out Saturday night leaving sunny skies and a few inches of fresh powder on the slopes today.

This weekend's snowfall has been eagerly awaited by businesses, skiers and snowboarders, as Summit County fell farther and farther behind its seasonal averages with each dry passing week.
