Vail Resorts urges everyone to 'Play it Safe'
Friday, December 23, 2011 13:04

Vail Resorts announced details of its “Play It Safe, Play All Season” slope safety campaign on Friday at its six mountain resorts, including Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone in Colorado.

“Our guests have been telling us that safety is a key component of their mountain experience, and their comfort level on the mountain relative to safety is one of the most important things we can affect,” said Blaise Carrig, co-president of Vail Resorts’ mountain division, in a news release

“Because of this, we’re launching the Play It Safe campaign across our resorts to encourage locals, destination guests and employees alike to ski and snowboard responsibly so that everyone can have fun on the mountain all season long. While everyone is ultimately responsible for their own behavior on the slopes, we can absolutely do our part in encouraging and enforcing responsible behavior and are committed to doing that.”

You can expect to see extra messages to "Play it Safe" on the mountain - particularly at terrain park exits and areas where trails merge - and extra employees on the slopes. This is an evolution of the Yellow Jackets safety program that began 10 years ago.

Part of the evolution is what happens to a skier or snowboarder who has had a pass revoked for safety violations. He or she will be required to attend a safety awareness class before being allowed to return to the slopes.

Skier Lindsey Vonn and snowboarder  Shaun White will help spread the word.  Watch a Play it Safe video with Lindsey Vonn.
