Will the 2012 USA Pro Cycling Challenge include Taylor Phinney, one of Colorado's best and most famous young riders?

"He wants to come here this coming year," said his father, Davis Phinney, one of Colorado's most famous and successful cyclists. "I think that it would be great for him to ride here.

"But it will just depend on how the season goes and what happens with the Olympics and what happens with his spring schedule," he said of his son's availability in 2012. "He's got quite an ambitious schedule the first five months of the year."

In 2008, Taylor Phinney finished eighth in individual pursuit in Beijing but the Olympic committee decided to remove the event from the program for 2012.

The 21-year-old phenom is hoping to be selected for the U.S. men's road race team that will compete in London this summer. As a fall back plan, Taylor Phinney has applied to represent the U.S. in the Omnium, an event making its Olympic debut.

"It's a natural evolution," Davis Phinney, an Olympic bronze medalist in the 1984 men's 100K team time trial, said. "He loves the Olympics and he would love to represent the U.S. in the Games."
