The World Snow Polo Championship is being played in Aspen this weekend at the Marolt Open Space.
(I feel so out of touch. I didn't know people played polo in the snow, let alone that there was a championship!)
The U.S. Polo Association-sanctioned event features five teams competing for a crystal trophy made by Baccarat. And, just so you know, rumor is there's an open bar sponsored by Ciroc vodka for spectators.
The Saturday and Sunday event is organized by the Roaring Fork Polo Club of New Castle. It's free and open to the public.
According to the Aspen Daily News, Marolt Open Space is across the Castle Creek Bridge from Aspen. Parking is available at the site, and event organizers are running free shuttles between the Limelight Lodge on Monarch Street and the venue every 20 minutes between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
The competition starts at 10 a.m. on both days. Polo matches, played under arena rules for this tournament, consist of four seven-minute chukkas with teams of three. The final match is set to begin around 1 p.m. Sunday.
