If you're headed up to ski, sled or ride, you might want to set aside time for another attraction: the Silverthorne Ice Castle.
The ice castle opens at 6 p.m. Friday (Dec. 9) and may last until April.
The icicles, towers and formations in the castle are up to 30 feet tall, and the castle, at its fullest, can weigh up to 10,000 tons, according to the Summit Daily News. So far, about 60,000 icicles cover nearly an acre with walkways, illuminated ice formations, tunnels and arches.
The Ice Castle will be open noon-9 p.m. Mondays-Fridays, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturdays, and 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Sundays.
Tickets are $10, $7.50 for children 5 and older. Kids 4 and younger are free.
