Fierce wind gusts were causing havoc in and around Steamboat Springs on Thursday morning.

Steamboat Ski Area will remain closed throughout the day Thursday because of strong winds. The ski area reported a gust of 123 mph early Thursday.

Ski Area spokesman Mike Lane said that wind stations at Tower 30, at the top of the gondola, and Tower 17, at the top of Christie Peak, have been providing the information that has kept employees and guests off the mountain.
