SUPERIOR -- Soon after rising from the ashes of dead-and-gone cycling races, the Superior Morgul Classic has become enough of a success that the town will now get a little outside help putting it on.

Superior town trustees approved an agreement Monday night giving responsibilities for marketing and organizing the three-day event to Boulder Racing, a Boulder-based race promotion firm.

The arrangement saves the town more than $100,000 a year -- money it spent on attracting cyclists to the race, closing down roads and running the May event. Superior will still pony up $30,000 as a sponsor.

The race attracts nearly 1,000 cyclists and up to 5,000 spectators.  Registration for the 2012 event will open in mid-December.

The 2012 event will still feature a Saturday criterium and a 13.3-mile Sunday road race, but will undergo several major changes:

** an earlier date on the calendar, May 18-20
**  a citizens' ride
**  a Friday night trial

The Morgul once was known as the Coors International Bicycle Classic.
