More trails are opening at Summit County's ski resorts and snow is accumulating in the High Country, meaning residents are making room in the mudroom for skis, boards, boots and other snow gear — and it's time to consider that early-season full tune.
First, it's the racers that come to sports shops like Frisco's Precision Ski and Golf. Then it's a mix of racers and folks eager to get out on the slopes, and right about now — the week of the Thanksgiving holiday — the recreational customer crowd spikes.
“Thanksgiving is the kickoff and from there, it's full-throttle until the end of the season,” said Seth Bartley, one of the shop's technicians.
Precision Ski and Golf is one of the oldest tune shops in the county, hitting its 30th year of being open and under the same ownership this year. It's a shop that's always had the mission of providing the best level of service possible — though perhaps not the least expensive, co-owner Jim Deines said.
When it comes to ski tuning, there's not much of a trick to it, Deines said, other than to “know there are no shortcuts.”
