The University of Colorado student who died Friday in a snowboarding accident at Breckenridge Ski Resort was described by friends and family as an experienced snowboarder and skier who was preparing to take a semester off to work at a ski resort.

Evan Massini, 20, of Westbrook, Conn., died from internal injuries he suffered Friday after crashing into a tree while snowboarding on the resort's Peak 8 Northstar trail, according to a news release from the Summit County Coroner's Office.

"He was doing what he loved to do," said his father, Edward Massini. "He had just called us and said he got the bindings on his new snowboard fixed, so he could get back on the mountain."

Massini's father said he used to take Evan and his older brother, Mark, skiing when they were just 2 years old and both quickly developed a love for skiing and snowboarding.

"I used to hold them between my legs, and we would go down the slopes," he said. "They grew up in the mountains."
