NEDERLAND — Eldora Mountain Resort west of Boulder says it's been chilly enough for it to run its snowmaking operations in full force.

The ski area is scheduled to open for the season Friday with eight trails and four lifts running. It said a cold front that moved into the Front Range mountains Tuesday brought new snow and also made it possible to generate manmade flakes.

Eldora says there should be a 23-inch snow base for opening day.

Vail also plans to start the season Friday, and Snowmass plans to open Saturday.

Several resorts have already started their seasons. More than half of Colorado's resorts will be open for Thanksgiving weekend, but some mountains are waiting until December.
