A bit of cold weather up north will serve Colorado hunters well, as waterfowl will hit the Central Flyway. The Denver Post file

While it seems a shame that Colorado's fall wild turkey season comes to a close more than a month before the traditional Thanksgiving gobble-fest, hunters are keeping their eyes on the skies with confidence that the goose will soon be cooked.

Those who don't have a turkey in the freezer and don't qualify to hunt in next week's youth extended season in the southwest can take heart in the positive prognosis for the waterfowl season that opens to dark geese along the Central Flyway over Colorado this Saturday. And as the adage long ago proclaimed, the way to that heart is often through the stomach.

"I usually smoke 'em, make jerky or goose kabobs on the grill," said Jeff Colwell, owner of Front Range Guide Service in Windsor and a waterfowl hunter of more than 30 years.
