Should elk and bison roam Great Sand Dunes park?

Bison by the dunes?   Why not!?

The National Park Service is developing a plan to guide the management of bison, elk, and other ungulates (hoofed mammals) at Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve.

Park officials are considering establishing a semi-free ranging bison population at dunes and they're looking for pros and cons of that idea and how they would manage the bison as well as populations of elk, deer, pronghorn or other hoofed animals.

Scientists have been studying elk and bison at Great Sand Dunes and on surrounding lands since 2004.

Comments can be submitted online through Jan. 6.
