Fat-ypus, a small company in Breckenridge, is holding its own these days against the big ski manufacturers.

Founder and owner Jared Mazlish said he and other pro skiers knew they wanted different skis but didn't know where to get them. So he decided to start making them.

He was looking for “that float feeling, like when you are on a snowboard or surf board," he told the Summit Daily News.

Fat-ypus skis are made by the folks at Never Summer.

Another local ski manufacturer -- Ski Logik -- is finding success with its custom skis.
