Although modern technology has basically engineered physical activity out of our daily lives, smartphones may provide technology that can help incorporate more physical activity back into our routines.
While some of us are still struggling to answer the phone and send texts, others are using smartphones to improve their health and fitness. Unless you have been living in a cave for the past couple of years, you might be aware of the many fitness apps that can do everything from tracking your training to teaching you to salsa dance. If you are looking for some motivation, accountability or just something new, check out these fun fitness apps:
» Run Keeper: Keep tabs on your distance, time, pace, calories burned, heart rate and route via GPS technology. It gives you results similar to an expensive GPS watch and includes the ability to listen to your music playlists while giving time or distance audio updates through your headphones throughout the workout. Take a photo and it appears on the map right where you took the picture when you review later online.
» Cyclemeter: Similar to Run Keeper, Cyclemeter turns your phone into a GPS-based cycling computer, tracking ride time, distance, speed, average and max speeds while mapping your route. Post-ride analysis helps you review your data like a pro by viewing the charts and graphs of your performance.
