Grand Junction cyclists apparently are working hard to ensure they're a part of next summer's USA Pro Cycling Challenge.
(See photos and video from the inaugural race!)
A local group says it has submitted a proposal for hosting a race stage. Members suggest cyclists cruise the wine country and/or climb Little Park Road, which parallels the Colorado National Monument.
There was a bit of controversy last year about allowing cyclists into Colorado National Monument, which would provide stunning views for spectators and riders (see photo, below) and killer climbs for the cyclists.

Apparently the Grand Junction group is buying ads in The Sentinel newspaper, sharing its plans and trying to rally support for the effort. Read more in this Denver Post story.
When will we know whether the group's efforts have paid off?
Organizers say they'll announce the 2012 race's host cities and towns at the end of the month.
We at Out There say: Bring on Year 2!
