VAIL, Colorado — Some of the best ski racers in the world are training at Golden Peak, thanks to a nearly $3 million investment in snowmaking by the Ski and Snowboard Club.
Training kicked off Wednesday in Vail with Lindsey Vonn, Bode Miller, Ted Ligety and other American skiers. Thursday's training was even better, said Olympian Tommy Ford, because of the conditions that formed overnight.
“They got some water on the hill last night so it's actually grippy ice,” Ford said. “It's pretty good for training — good response; good for feeling out your skis and for skiing.”

To have “full-on” winter conditions is a huge benefit, said U.S. Ski Team racer Tim Jitloff.
“Being able to get a head start here in Vail and then at Copper is a huge deal for us,” he said.
Other ski teams also are using the early season facilities.
U.S. Ski Team members will split off in many directions in coming weeks, but will continue to train at Vail through the Birds of Prey World Cup races in Beaver Creek in early December.
