Slickrock trail in Moab demands preparation, respect

MOAB, Utah - For mountain bikers, Slickrock needs no introduction.

This is arguably the most famous and sought-after mountain bike trail in North America.

Each year, more than 100,000 visitors enter the vast moonscape of Navajo Sandstone that comprises the Slickrock Trail, located in the Sand Flats Recreation Area west of Moab off the Sand Flats Road.

Since the trail is so popular, the trailhead parking often fills up, especially in the summer. For this reason I recommend riding Slickrock in late spring or early fall and as early in the day as possible. This way you can avoid the heat, which can be well above 100 degrees in the summer, and the crowds.
