Runners come out in force for Creepy Crawl 5K

Lori Stich bettered her own course record by 30 seconds Saturday morning in winning the Creepy Crawl 5K at Palmer Lake.

The 41-year-old crossed the line in 19:32, finishing only behind men's winner Dan Castaneda in the 3.1-mile race. Stich also won in 2010.

Adrian Chouinard, 28, of Manitou Springs took second in 20:03 and Hanna Born, 13, of Colorado Springs rounded out the top three in 21:37. Both runners set new age-group course records.

Castaneda, 27, cruised to victory on the Santa Fe Trail with a time of 18:00. The Colorado Springs resident outpaced New Hampshire resident Russell Johnson, 21, who finished in 19:40. Mike Stephens, 28, of Colorado Springs was third in 19:59.

Many runners were decked out in costumes for the Creepy Crawl, which was hosted by the Tri-Lakes Family Center YMCA and raised money to support the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region's annual community support campaign.
