THE ASSOCIATED PRESS ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK — Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park is officially closed to travel for the season. The road is billed as the highest continuous paved road in the U.S., with its highest point at 12,183 feet. It had been closed since Saturday due to drifting snow, high winds and temperatures below freezing above 10,000 feet. On Thursday, park officials said the road wouldn't be opening again until spring. The road typically closes for the winter sometime around Oct. 23. It usually is fully open again the last week in May, but this past year, heavy spring snow kept it closed until June 6. |
