By MIKE WIGGINS, GRAND JUNCTION SENTINEL Search and rescue crews this afternoon found the body of a Garfield County man who got lost with his father-in-law while hunting in a remote area south of Silt two days ago. Spotters in an Army National Guard helicopter flying in the area of Mosquito Lake in far eastern Mesa County spotted what they thought was the body of 49-year-old Jim McCarthy of Glenwood Springs around 11 a.m. Searchers on horseback saw McCarthy’s body about the same time, Mesa County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Heather Benjamin said. McCarthy and his father-in-law, 65-year-old Jose Rodriguez, were reported missing Tuesday night by another group of hunters after the pair failed to return to their camp. Search and rescue crews found Rodriguez exhausted but otherwise in good condition early Wednesday morning. |
