A mountain biker riding near De Beque died Friday night from injuries suffered in a fall.

Steven D. Chesley, 62, of Rifle, was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering a blunt-force neck injury during a fall, according to the Mesa County Coroner’s office.

Chesley an avid mountain biker, hit the top of his head with significant force, the coroner stated. He was wearing a helmet.
