If you love to compete, enjoy a good challenge and like trying new things, give cyclocross a try.

Cyclocross is part mountain biking, part running and all adventure.

If you want to learn more about the sport and even take part in a training session, the good folks at Pikes Peak Velo are ready to help. They will be conducting three training clinics next month.

The sessions are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. until dark on Nov. 2, 9 and 16 at Rock Ledge Ranch (on the east side of Rock Ledge off the main Garden of the Gods entrance -- Gateway Road). The clinics will focus on skills, including barrier training, getting on and off the bike, carrying the bike and a general introduction to the sport. Instructors also will lead participants on a course walk-through.

After attending a clinic, you can test your skills Nov. 19 at the Pikes Peak Supercross in Rock Ledge Ranch. The race is a fundraiser for Kids on Bikes. All mountain bikers, runners and athletes are encouraged to try it out. There also is a free kids' race. There's even a BBQ lunch and pizza dinner for anyone who makes a donation to Kids on Bikes.
