ALAMOSA -- (AP) There's one fewer bear that will be tipping over trash cans by night or entertaining locals by day. After two weeks of bear sightings around town, state wildlife officials tranquilized and transported a 250-pound black bear Wednesday that spent the prior day in a tree across from a former elementary school. While the bear had not been aggressive toward people or pets, Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials said the bear was becoming too comfortable in a town where bears are not common visitors. "This one has been bouncing around town a little bit," said Joe Lewandowski, a Parks and Wildlife spokesman. "It looked like this one was not going to be leaving on its own." Police believe the bear was one of two, if not three, that have been spotted along the Rio Grande levee and on the Adams State College campus. The captured bear was released in the mountains near Saguache, Lewandowski said. Hundreds of people, many armed with cameras, children or both, came by the busy intersection to get a look at the bear Tuesday. Kayleith Pellandini made four trips to get a glimpse of the bear. "I'm excited -- I think more than the kids," she said. The same bear also spent time near Mayor Kathy Rogers' house.
