Sarah Haskins of Colorado Springs is one of 6 American triathletes - 3 from Colorado Springs - who will compete Sunday at the Pan American Games in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The U.S. team has won 6 of 12 triathlon medals over the past two Pan Am Games. Also representing the U.S. are: Gwen Jorgensen (Milwaukee, Wis.), Sara McLarty (Clermont, Fla.) Matt Chrabot (Colorado Springs), Mark Fretta (Colorado Springs) and Manuel Huerta (Miami, Fla.). Huerta was named to the squad last week after Colorado Springs resident and three-time Olympian Hunter Kemper was forced to withdraw after breaking his elbow in a bicycle crash at the Oct. 9 finale of the 2011 USA Triathlon Elite Race Series in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The triathlon consists of a 1,500-meter swim, 40K bike and 10K run. Haskins, a Beijing Olympian and 2007 Pan Am Games silver medalist, will compete in her second Pan Am Games. She is coming off a seventh-place finish at the Oct. 9 Huatulco ITU World Cup and earned her first career World Cup win in Monterrey, Mexico, earlier this season. Chrabot won the Huatulco ITU World Cup twice in the last three years, including Oct. 9. He also has two PATCO Pan American Championship titles. Fretta has a pair of top-10 Pan American Cup finishes this season. Read more about the U.S. Pan Am Games triathletes at xtri.com. |
