The Weld District Attorney will charge the woman who hit a Greeley cyclist weeks ago with a misdemeanor.

Heather Clevenger, 33, of Greeley, will receive a summons to appear in Weld County Court for careless driving resulting in death, a misdemeanor punishable by a maximum of three to 12 months in jail if convicted.

The District Attorney's office did not reveal any details about the July 22 crash that killed Fred Wilson, 62, while he was riding his bike in the 9300 block of 10th Street.

Greeley police reported that Wilson was struck by a van while he was riding his bicycle about 8:15 a.m. on the shoulder of the road.  Police said Wilson died at the scene.

Police said Clevenger told them she was distracted by something and hit a bike rider. Police at the time reported that Clevenger said she didn't realize she'd hit someone at first, but stopped a short distance up the road.

Clevenger is due to face the charge in Weld County Court at 9 a.m. Oct. 20.
