Want to buy ski resort? Bidding begins Thursday

GRAND JUNCTION — Powderhorn Ski Resort is going on the auction block.

Bidding will begin Thursday at the resort’s Day Lodge.

According to the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel, a cashier’s check for $10,000 will be required to bid.

Powderhorn CEO and President Steve Bailey and Dean Skalla bought the resort in 1999. Resort spokeswoman Sarah Allen says the ski area isn’t in distress, but Bailey and Skalla thought an auction was the quickest option for finding a new owner as Bailey heads toward retirement.

The resort east of Grand Junction has a dozen full-time employees and around 250 employees in the winter.
