Tour de France has Fort Collins flavor

FORT COLLINS COLORADOAN

Tejay van Garderen, who lived in the mid 2000s in Fort Collins, made his Tour de France debut Saturday with Team HTC-Highroad. His parents, Marcel and Janice, still live in Fort Collins.

Van Garderen, 22, was on Team Rio Grande Racing developmental squad in 2004-05. He was born in Tacoma, Wash., and spent most of his childhood in Bozeman, Mont. He now lives most of the time in Europe.

Van Garderen’s accomplishments this season include finishing second overall in the Volta ao Algarve, getting second in the third stage of the Tour of Switzerland and fifth overall and second in a prologue time trial in the Tour of California.
